If there is a big smell in the processing of plastic products, it means that the raw materials may be problematic, there are impurities inside, or some products are added. So how should we solve it?

1, using more pure resin

In many plastics, especially in plastics such as polyvinyl chloride, styrene, polyethyl acetate and acrylate, residual trace monomers can produce unpleasant odors. Resins with very low monomer residues can be used. Eliminate those smells. If you use the odorless resin itself, it will have a very bad effect.

2, change the additive

The tertiary amine of the catalyst used in the production of polyurethane foam often brings a very weak odor. One of the measures is to use a polyhydroxy compound. The residual hydroxyl compound is not only a component of the polyurethane molecular chain, so it also has catalytic activity, and some The hydroxy compound can also replace half of the tertiary amine catalyst, and the resulting product emits less odor.

Phenol stabilizers used in PVC extrusion or calendering are often replaced by high-odor zinc stabilizers. Thermal stabilizers, stannic acid, are also commonly found in automotive PVC due to their high odor and low atomization properties. Among the products, plant extract oils such as erucic acid and oleic acid are much higher than those of animal-derived oil-based amine lubricants (for polyolefin and styrenic food packaging materials).

3. Adding adsorbent

If a small amount of zeolite (an aluminosilicate adsorbent) is filled in the polymer, the odor of the material can be removed. The zeolite has a large number of crystal disc faces, which can capture small molecules of odorous gas. Molecular adsorbents have been successfully applied in polyolefin extruded pipes, injection and extrusion blow molded containers, isolated packaging materials, extruded packaging materials and sealed polymers. Molecular adsorption powders can also be added as plastics to moisture absorbers. In addition to removing water vapor, these water vapors also contribute to the smell of plastic products.
